i understand its behind the pulleys so im obviously going to have too remove atleast one of them , im not a mechanic and can only do basic shit so i was wondering if theres a guide around i could have a look at so i know whether to try myself or throw money at a mechanic.
Get yourself a workshop manual. It has all the service procedures like changing the water pump ,and its all step by step instructions, with heaps of pics, you cant go wrong. The first time you use it to fix something instead of paying a mechanic,it will have paid for itself.Plus you will learn heaps from it.If you cant get hold of a factory workshop manual, get a gregorys brand manual, they are pretty good, but any manual is better than none.
Easily found by searching. 3800's and Ecotec's water pump are essentially the same.
How to change Ecotec Waterpump
Changing water pump VN/VP/VR
thanks for the links , whats an average price for a water pump?
I did mine a while back, wasn't too difficult; I had the Gregorys manual to help me through and it really is something you need if you don't know anything (like me).
The one part of advice I will give is to make sure to get some rubber rings/seals that seal the water intake pipe; I went to Repco and they gave me a handful for free, since the waterpump I got didn't come with any.
There are water pumps on ebay for $30-$50 bux. I done mine last weekend. not too difficult, my advise would be to back of the water pump pulley bolts ASWELL as power steering pulley bolts BEFORE you remove the engine belt, you will need to do this as one of the water pump bolts fouls on the power steering pulley so it needs to come off (you wont be able to back off the bolts with the engine belt removed!!)
Also make sure you clean of all the old gasket before you put the new gasket/water pump on.
Power is measured in DECIBEL
