304 loud engine tick

Hey everyone,
I've just had a reco 304 by hm gem put in my car about 13000 ago, it's had all of the required services since, but yesterday I had just picked my son up from kinder and was taking off when the car seemed like it wanted to
stall for about 2 seconds then it picked up normally and there was an extremely loud ticking noise coming from under the rocker cover I was 100m from home so I got it there and waited for my mechanic to come. He got there about three hours later and when I started the car it ran like a dream, he said it might have been a blown up lifter. What does that mean and will it happen again or do you think it might be something else? I am worried because I do long drives in it and I can't afford for it to be breaking down far away, thanks for the help jordz

Put a bottle of lifter free up in there, you can get them from supercheap or wherever for like 15 bucks. It'll either fix the sticky lifter or make it obvious that its failed. (If it is even a lifter)
