Default New diff or New centre?

    hey guys
i am looking at putting an lsd in my vr exec but im not sure weather i should but a whole lsd diff and do a straight swap or just change the centre as i do have limited money..

Commodore VL VN VP VR VS non IRS LSD Diff centre - eBay V8, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 03-Jun-10 00:19:12 AEST)

Is it a straight swap with the centres?
If i buy the centre how much would it roughly cost to get it put in?

    cheers guys

if you want to upgrade to a lsd your would need the new centre and you would want to rebuild your whole diff aswell new oil maybe gears aswell if you want. all up if you can source everything yourself and give it to a diff man you would be looking anywhere between $500 to $1500

you could but you should save the extra $$$ and rebuild at least then you know it will last.

I have seen many people do the Center Swap and be all sweet and others get trigger happy with the new LSD and snap axles lol

if you got the centre out quick rebuild and a new set of gears = pure win , save and do it right the first time and you will be happy

Rebuilding a diff or converting to LSD sucessfully is an art.
The contact between the crownwheel and pinion gears is critical. Changing parts will upset this pattern and cause a noise.

It cost me $150 in labour + oil to swap an LSD centre into the existing centre of my VS live axle
Also I bought my centre from exactly the same place as that ebay link and it was pretty good

That centre diff part looks to be a good deal. Add the $150 or so to get it fitted and I'd say you would be happy with it. My LSD in my VN cost me over $900 a few years ago and it is already singing at 80kph.
