Hello,
I recenty had to replace my tensioner (the whole thing) due to a large crack forming along it and the belt squeeking.
The replacement was a success all but the fact that now my brakes are playing up and the exclamation mark engine light is on.
Anyone have any ideas on how to go about fixing this.
Thanks in advance
Matt
That means the hand brake is on, even if only slightly, so I would start looking in that area.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
i tried the handbrake on and off and its not changing that light there is another light with a P in it that goes on and off for the hand brake
That light shows a fault in the braking system.Maybe you have bumped or knocked off the wire that goes to the master cylinder pressure differential switch. If this wire is ok,check the fluid levels etc.How do the brakes feel when used?Does the vehicle have ABS?
The pressure differential switch wire,if broken or disconnected, wont affect how the brakes work.It is just there to turn the dash brake fail warning light on if one of the two brake hydraulic systems in the master cylinder fails.
Has ther car got ABS fitted?
yes it has abs. just out of curisoty wat is the difference to the problem if i didnt have abs.
hey guys so the problem is definetly the brakes i am trying to narrow down how to fix it.
i have attached some photos to help explain my situation.
the first pic is the tensioner itself
the second is the little plug at the bottom of the brake fluid system that when removed makes the light go away but doesnt stop the brake problem
pic 3 and pic 4 is the brake fluid system
pic 5 is the wire that is on the bolt of the tensioner that i thought might have something to do with the brakes or could be causing the problem
also when i push the brake when the car is off the vacuum works
then as soon as i start it the brake pedal goes loose
From the pix it looks like you have no brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir - if so you will be pumping air.

its a bad pic the resevoir is full
try moving the earth wire back to the nut it self. it looks like it on the alloy tensoner. it may be an earthing issue.
also try reproducing your steps, it maybe something you did on your tensoner job
