Default VS SS Diff Diffrent to VS S Diff??

    Hi all,
Just trying to find out if the VS SS Commodore Differentials (Live Axle) are stronger than the V6 ones and if so could I rebuild a V6 one with the V8 internals and billet axles?
    Thanks heaps,
    Shane

I believe VS SS's came standard with irs
Black, Red leather, 20" Pentagons, Red walls, Lowered, OTR, Mafless, 3.9s, Diff dumpers, 341rwhp...

185i, Chasers, Flappers, Venetians, Sunvisor, Twin diff dumpers, 194rwhp...

They were all right out of this post -
    SS/Manta Standard with IRS
    S Pack Optional
An S pack is an executive with a body kit, they had the same options, however came out standard with live axle.

People who dont know for sure shouldnt answer the questions with incorrect answers

The only ones with standard IRS were the ones i listed above, the rest were optional

In the mean time, if anyone has actually read the first post, I'm sure the OP was asking about diff internals, not whether he could bolt a complete diff from one car into another.

He said the VS SS had a live axle....it doesn't, so he can't do what he wants to do anyway. Except of course if it was a ute.

Are diff gears etc... the same between the two? I thought that the only difference (between the 8 and 6) was that the the 8 had shot peened gears. Didn't all of the diffs (except for the LSDs) use a 4 spider BW78 setup? Is there any difference between the two internally?

Ummm...yes...the internals are the same, BW78 diff centres are the same whether it is IRS or live axle.

But his original question is still incorrect.

Thank-you everyone. I had been told that VS SS came with a choice of either live axle or irs. and wanted to know if it was possible to rebuild my live axle to ss specs?? wether it be by bolting on a live axle straight from an ss or if i could get internals from an irs but i doubt that would be possible.

This is the the correct answer. IRS came STANDARD on all of these sedan models.
