So I had a grinding noise at the flywheel, I refuse to drive the car while it makes this horrid noise.
The transmission was done about 2 years ago and we had this problem before with a bolt coming out from the flywheel and sitting in the cover some how, not sure what it was from, however returned the car to the people who fixed the auto and they fixed the plate back so it didnt grind.
However today it started again, but not from a bolt, but a flat bit of shrapnel, alittle upset thinking it is the auto trans fault, however im not rdy to jump to conclusions at this stage.
So I took the flywheel plate off, which is the tin piece that obviously protects it from dust and objects going under the vehicle, It seems to grind without the plate now and the flywheel is not straight, it actually wobbles as if its warped, is this normal?? It makes grind noise when I rev the car, problem is the car is a 5 litre and makes noise past 2000 revs.
Anyone else had similiar issues ? did the auto place dodgey the auto after I asked it be done properly? they also did the diff which seems fine atm.
Any sort of response would be helpful, thanks.
Sounds like the bolts holding the flywheel to the crank have come loose. Maybe they didn't locktite them in.
well a bolt did come out the first time, so my guess is no, quite disapointing, I would prefer take the risk and do things myself if professionals can't do they're jobs properly even asking me if I was keeping the car or not, I still wouldnt sell the car with a dodgey job on it then it back fires on me. Seemed like an idiotic question to me when they asked me.
Not everyone is shifty and they should probably be careful who they reveal "tricks of the trade" like that, considering im only a customer and work in the hospitality industry.....lol.
So my guess is, Im going to need a new flywheel and bell housing. The bell housing is literally dinted and scratched to all shit and well shrapnel coming from a fly wheel states its going to need replacement.
Is there a chance the crank shaft could be F'd? or even the trans ? and could this relate anything to the rear main leaking or even caused from the rear main seal?
nah mate none of this could have been caused by the rear main seal.
it could possibly bent either the crankshaft but more likely would be the input sfaft from the gear box i would think.
have you pulled the flywheel out yet? does it look damaged at all? hopefully at the worst it is just the flywheel is screwed and nothing else.
forgot to add. yes this could be the cause for it leaking.
No I haven't touched it, I put it back under the car port .. I don't want to mess around with it, I don't want to get gunk in the transmission, let alone know where to start taking the fly wheel out, might check out my holden manual and see if it has any easy instructions to put it out, other than that, I got a cheap jack with a minimal selection of tools, perhaps ill just send it to a different auto trans place.
Sounds like a loose bolt clamping the torque convertor to the flex plate.Theres 3 bolts...
Rotate the engine by hand and check them.
