    Default Help Please

hey guys ive got a VS ute and i had some weird problem on the weekend.

i was driving and my central locking doors locked them selves, my wipers wouldnt work on the first click and my taco was bouncing up and down all over the place like a pork chop usually as i was braking (past 7000) but the engine wasnt reving. then as soon as i pulled into a servo it died without my turning the key, and wouldnt start again..

so i got it towed to an auto electrition and as soon as it was off the truck what do you know, it started again .. he said it maybe a bad earth but now it started its going to be hard to find,...

so does anyone know what this may be, or has anyone experience this before??

First I'd check battery connections....also inspect to thick main cable that connects to the back of the alternator - this is a known fail point.

    ok thnks.
i had a look at the cable that runs from the battery to the starter, the insulation coating is cracking maybe a wire burntout or something like that just very weird. the alternator isnt that old it was put in like 6 months ago.

5.0 or 3.8? if its a V8 could be the ignition module, they make the tacho bounce all over when they start to fail. Not so sure on the v6 if the dfi would do the same..

I'd still check the wire to the alternator despite the alt being replaced. What happens is that the cable overheats where it connects to the alternator and repeated cycling cause the copper to crystallise and fail....
