I had to take the silver heat surrounds off the end of the spark leads, i had similar problem car ran like $%^&, took to mechanic removed those shrouds and ran fine after that, he said something about them earthing out not sure how true this can be i not real mechanically minded myself but give it a go, it worked on mine.

All the V6 engines had them originally. Its to stop the exhaust manifold burning or melting the ends of the plug leads where they go onto the spark plug. Some aftermarket sets like bosch come with new heat shields.Or you can just fit the old ones again.

does the heat sheild go round the boot of the leads the end that connects to the spark plug ?

Just take the shields off, see if it makes a difference not having them on

When they say "on the engine side" they don't mean "on the side of the engine".
    - They mean at the end of the lead which connects to the spark plug.

You would be able to tell at a glance if you had the shields on your leads. Sounds like you don't.

I had the heat shields taken off my VS when they put the gas on and when it went for the next service the mechanic couldn't get them off so I had a go and it tore the lead end off, so he pulled the plug out and it had melted to the plug!!!!!!!!!! I'll always use the plug covers now.

Have a look at your coil packs and check to make sure that there not damaged in any way. I also had a problem with my VS commodore. It sounded like it was only running on four cylinders and sure enough it was i found a big crack in the coil pack. I had no idea until i took to the mechanics and they pointed it out to me what the prob was, i searched that engine bay and did not see it, have a look at that and let us know.

As i said i searched that engine bay for problems, loose wires spark plug leads not connected properly kept going back to coil pack as i figured it was some sort of an ignition problem, the crack blended i still don't know how i missed it, once i got shown it stands out like dogs balls, i now run a MSD coil pack picked up off ebay for 200.
