hi guys , changed my trans fluid/gasket and filter today put it all back togeather now i have got the same leak as where it was coming from before i took the pan off, can these things warp or somthing over time? and was just curious if the VR AND VS auto trans pan's are the same? thanks in advance
Pretty sure the pans are the same VS/VR.....lay the pan on a flat sheet and see if there is a gap underneath. Whereabouts exactly is it leaking from....could be from something else.

yeah ill do that, lay it down see if its warped ,its leaking from the front left side at the front of it, where the bolts are very close togeather but along the seem of the gasket, i drowned myself and the driveway 1st getting it off it was a nightmare ,was alot of gunky stuff on the magnet aswell dont think the pan has come off for a long time thanks for the tip hako

Make sure you don't do the bolts up tight when you install it again....just snug them up then if it weeps a bit you can just snug them up a bit more. Overtightening compresses the gasket and warps the pan. Don't use gasket cement as this can make the pan stick real good and then you distort the pan trying to remove it. Mate of mine had a full pan of hot transmission oil tip straight onto his chest - had a wooly jumper on under his overalls which absorbed the hot oil and kept it against his skin....ended up with some bad burns that didn't heal real quick.
Good Luck.

Located left front of trans.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
thanks for the info guys, and yeah hako this stuff is alot different to oil is seeps and soaks very very quickly wouldnt be good getting the hot stuff on you.....im dissapointed ive taken this pan off twice to fix it and it's still leaking, after i took it off the 2nd time my gasket was still in good nick so i reused it again, Now putting it back on i used a proper gasket making black stuff, its heat, oil and water proof resistent ontop of the cork gasket just around the front of it where the 4 bolts are just to give it abit more of a seal , and what u know it's started to leak again im pis$ed im gonna have to try another pan or somthing
i had the same problem with a friends vs caprice , done a transmission service for him , changed the filter , pan gasket . started leaking from the pan after, anyway changed the pan gasket 2 more times and it still leaked. then i checked the lip of the pan with a straight edge and seen that the lip was not flat , where the bolt holes are seemed to be raised higher , about one millimeter. so i cleaned the lip of the pan with some degreaser then some carby cleaner , then when was dry i ran a bead of black silastic gasket maker around the lip of the pan and around the bolt holes , then placed the cork gasket onto the pan and fitted to transmission. i only tightened the pan bolts up with a small 3/8 ths drive ratchet and socket , makeing sure bolts were done up a little each time evenly and in a order of sequence. and i waited for 3 hours to let the silastic cure b4 putting the new trans fluid in . that was 2 weeks ago , and its not leaking. the crazy part is i have done transmission services to my vr stato and 3 commodores over the last 4 years and have not had any problems except for the caprice . my theory is that the pan on the caprice must have been really over tightened by previous owners or " mechanics ". hope this can help you , ONLY PUT SILASTIC ON THE LIP OF THE PAN nowhere else otherwise the cork gasket can be forced out from between the pan and the transmission case surface , i know , it happened to me .........good luck LANCE.
Hi guys,
Found that the pan on my transmission is one place that it leaks could be others. For some reason many places seem to sell cork gaskets, I find that they leak over time.
Anywhere to get a rubber one?
Does it have to be specific for a Commodore, or can it be for any 4L60-E ?
And while the pan is off, any maintenance/adjustments that can be done or should be done while it's out, apart from replacing filter.
Thanks.
the pans are all the same can get em of a corvette if you want. try "inflating the gasket. permatex sells a gasket making compound (silastic type stuff) you wipe a layer over the orignal gasket then let it set over night. repeat if you want till you get a nice thick gasket the install.

Maybe you could use 2 gaskets - cement them together with Sikaflex or silastic and then use the sealnt on the gasket when putting pan on. I'd use minimal torque on the screws. The cork gaskets should be cork particles bonded together with neoprene.
