If its automatic, try moving the gear selector back and forth a bit in the park position,or try starting the engine with the gear selector in the neutral position. The inhibitor/neutral safety switch, which is usually located just under the gear selector lever, and stops the vehicle from being started in gear, can sometimes stuff up, and when the key is turned to start, nothing happens, just like when trying to start it when its in gear, and a bit of movement back and forth on the gear selector lever, can usually move the inhibitor switch enough allowing the engine to start..

Does the clicking seem to come from the starter motor or the fuse box under the bonnet? Also does the clicking noise stop when you try to start it in gear?
