i got a 95 vs series 2 3.8l auto and it sometimes cuts out for no reason when driving or just idleing, iv been to auto electricians and mechanics who all said that the computer isnt storing a code for the problem and the only thing they can do is guess! they replaced the crank angle sensor but that didnt fix the problem, also when the car chops out it is hard to start it again and i sometimes have to pull of the rd for a min before i can get it going again, i recently replaced the starter motor which works great when normaly starting it up but when it cuts out is still very hard to get going again does anyone have or had the same prob with there vs! please HELP! this is getting realy expensive!![]()
when the car cuts out does the engine turn over fast or slow?
yeh i had a prob with my vr very very similar to that but wen i stalled mi car a few times wen i was learning to drive it wouldnt start again after i stalled it, my mechanic replaced the krank angle sensor and it was all sweet so mayb it has something to do with the fuses in your box mi mechanic told me to check them and swao them round and spray the tips with crc cos they get some scum build up and stop functioning properly, or check ya spark plugs matey, ill ask some mates with vr- vs commodores and ill let you know
had a similar problem with my VR, turned out to be a leaking fuel regulator at the input to the fuel line to the injectors. merlinp.
Hi,
We had the same problems as well. Crank Angle Sensor
was changed, but the problem persisted.
Finally it died on the side of the road, and we had it
towed to our trusty mechanic.
It turned out to be the DFI (Direct Fire Ignition?) circuit board.
$450 for a new one, supplied and fitted. Ouch.
No troubles ever since...

Just a very wild guess but could it be the fuel pump, if its not providing enough fuel to the engine it would cut out, then when you try to start it, it could be flooding or taking a while to bleed the air out and replace the fuel in the injectors? Just a wild guess
can be either
cool thanks, do you know where abouts the DFI is located in the car? r u able to check it yourself? thanks
The DFI is the black thing under the three coils on the right side (looking from the front) of the engine.Originally Posted by spazgazz
A service and repair manual would be your best bet to find out how to test it (not sure if you can, I think it's like a circuit board with lots of components), or you could do a visual inspection on it. For things like this I'd be taking it to an auto electrician.
Hope that helps....
