v8 5 litre vr commodore ss

Hi,ive got a vr ss commodore,and the transmission just give up
i am looking for another one at the moment
ive had a friend tell me i can convert a v6 to a v8 by changing the bell housing or something,is this true?
and will an older 3 speed box fit the vr v8
does anyone know which kinds of boxes fit and from what kind of models?

Hi mate, I doubt the V6 tranny will fit or cope. The old 3 speed wont work either 'cause the VR autos are electronically controlled and the 3 speeds aren't. I've got a VR SS auto and i'm waiting for the auto to die so that I can convert it to 5 speed manual, trouble is it's working great. I don't think there is a cheap way out unfortunately.
