hey guys kinda new here but was looking for some help
im wanting to do up my Vs Berlina for more performance... was looking at a few things from MACE engineering and was thinking of this setup and was wondering
Ultra High Ratio Roller Rockers 1.98:1 with upgraded pushrods
Stage 2 crow cam to suit the Ultra High Ratio Roller Rockers
Factory Holden Supercharged Memcal
Bored out and polished 69mm throttle body
85mm MAF sensor
Let me know what you think![]()
Get proper roller rockers in the factory ratio with a higher lift cam. That way you get less valvetrain losses.
EDIT: and a supercharged memcal is not going to do you any good at all, Especially not with rockers + cam. At best, it would run, but lean out in high RPM. At worst, It may not even start. IMO You really need a dyno tune or atleast something real time for anything more than intake + exhaust mods
so scrap that memcal ??
forgot 2 mention already have an SS cold air intake system and a 2.5 cat back exhaust and getting extractors soon
not all that technical minded so what does lean out mean ?
yea gonna go get a dyno tune cause just got exhaust and intake done
Means not enough fuel for the amount of air coming in, makes the engine run hot and depending on severity can burn valves, melt pistons blow headgaskets etc. pretty rare to do that kind of damage on a 3800, depends how hot you get it.
Higher ratio'd roller rockers would be fine on their own, but I'm not sure if crow cams recommend any rockers other than factory ones for their cam grinds. Might be wrong, but it'd pay to look into it. Mightn't be worth the cost either. I always thought that was the idea of running the higher lift rockers, so you sort of take away most of the need and hassle of installing a cam. A supercharged ECU chip won't be any good to you unless you're gonna run one of these.
You will also find that maces rockers are not true roller rockers - they dont have rollers in the tips. And I have heard they flex a fair bit. Def. worth getting a cam, a lot of people will tell you its not worth the cost; But speed costs money - So how fast you wanna go?
Change the diff gears in it (if its got the 3.08) and maybe do a couple of things to the autobox in it (assuming its still an auto)
Gears will get it off the line quicker, and the box mods will give you that firm shift
so Andrew what cam would u recommend 2 use in it ??
im a bit confused now...i think def need a bigger throttle body, now 2 choose between a cam or roller rockers....
which do you think would give me more power ??
and 2 answer ur question......... i wanna go really fasthahahaha
roller rockers and cams essentially do the exact same thing but usually with a price difference of100's of $$$
cheaper option is if you want that lumpy sound get the high roller rockers you can.
bigger TB wont do anything for a car with only a few bsic mods so dont worry about that untill you start doing serious $$$ of work to the engine.
if i were you mate id be going for some roller rockers like the YT ones. if its an auto a shift kit corvet servo etc etc and then 3.45 diff gears and it will make it considerably quicker to what your use to now.
doing things like CAI's full exhaust and shift kits should be a few of the first things you do especially the shift kit if your planning on doing internal engine work as the stock Auto will only last so long with a worked motor.
Dont choose, For best results get both. Get something like 1.65:1 roller rockers from yellaterra, and have a talk with a cam specialist about what kind of grind you want. Also, regrinding the stock cam will save you a lot of money - But only if you remove/refit it yourself. Otherwise get one out of a wrecked car or buy new.
Rockers are only able to change valve lift (IE how far your valve opens) while a cam is able to change both lift and duration (how long the valve is open) as well as overlap - So saying they are both the same is only half true)
The main benefit of getting proper roller rockers is that they are better made, so they dont flex as much. Also, they have rollers in the tips, so they are not loading the valve sideways as they push the valve open and there is less friction in your valvetrain.
You should also look at getting some decent roller lifters to go with.
Just to add, all these modifications together will require a proper tune, otherwise it will be gutless and horrible to drive.
does any1 kno a good place in Adelaide 2 get a stage 2 shift kit and a proper tune once i have done all these mods ???
