    Default Oil light HELP

    Hello,

I just put a new engine in my car first start there was no oil light then it came on, then this morrning i started the car no oil light after about 5 mins if running it came back on. but when i drove it down the my dad's workshop when i hit some bumps it went out. it seems to have oil brasher.

i took it for anther drive and got it up to speed and it when out for the time i was driving then it would just come on. and it would flicker and what not.

What can i do to work out what the issue is? could it be a bad earth some where or something?

    thank you

Id be getting the engine oil pressure tested. And if it shows to be ok,replace the oil pressure sensor.Around $25 from holden. But before replacing the sensor, firstly check the sensor wiring to make sure its not broken or bare and earthing (shorting) out somewhere along the wiring loom.

Okay i just cleaned all the earth points but i could not clean the one that connects to the engine mound. and it looks very dirty :S and i had two senders and they both do the same thing. and i cleaned the plugs and sockets with electric cleaner.

After doing all that cleaning it seems to be off but it was like that when i cleaned the sockets out and air and it came back on. do you think an auto shop that sells auto things have a testers or would i have to book it in.

also when i gave it a good rev like a fast on and and off it killed the engine.

If the oil light is flickering when you hit bumps in the road etc ,and it does the same thing with two different sensors,,Id be looking for a shorted or bare sensor wire in the loom somewhere. If you have recently changed the engine, Id be paying particular attention to the engine wiring loom.Just trace the oil pressure sensor wiring back from the sensor. The only other things it could be is actual low oil pressure or maybe a problem with the oil pump or pickup.

if you get a bit of water in them oil sender units they are stuffed. normally happens after cleaning ya engine.
you say a *NEW* engine? recon or new second hand from wreckers or something??
if its new, could be oil pick up sucking air not put on properly, could be stuffed pump or excessive bearing clearances. one big one, theres a welsh plug ont he V6's in the block that if you forget to put in after rebuild will give you low oil pressure. i think its the v6's or straight 6 or both.
if its pump, pull timing cover off and check it for clearances by specs. maybe be a stuck relief valve in the pump as well.
could be lots of things, hard to diagnose unless its in front of me.
but i sure as hell wouldnt be driving it until pressure is checked.
