vr wagon running like sh#t

hi all i have read a fewpostsabout the vr and idling and running rough but for the life of me cannot figure it out.

when the car starts it goes to about 2500rpm then drops under 1000 thats stays there and sounds liek crap. and when you start to drive i stalls and spulutters i have changed the leads and cleaned the throttle body as it was a bit dirty. the engine light stays on all the time. the car has never ran this crap. it has been a perfect car i would like to fix it the sell it because the wagon is just too big for us now.

Try doing an error code check on the engine management system.Heres a link to a page that shows you how this is done.Its very quick and easy to do, and very handy to know.
---Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)---
After you have noted any errors that are logged,you can disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes to clear the logged error codes.Then drive the car for 15 minutes or so,and then re check the errors to see if any have come back.Any error codes that show will hopefully give you an idea as to whats wrong.Engine management sensors etc,all wear out just like any other part and can need replacing from time to time.
