Umpa loompa dumpady doo, i have another ridle for you... My car has been having a really bad issue. It changes gears so bad that i start crying and need a tissue. Ok.
Its a VR Automatic. Now you have to remember this problem is intermittent, so one day i could be driving fine one day, and it could be playing up the next. This has become very frustrating.
What happens is that it revs very high before changing gears. But. The gearbox apparently has been checked and there was no issues found with it. Although i keep getting the TPS (throttle possition sensor) error very often. The sensor has been replaced, but seems to have gotten even worse. Before i could turn the car of and start it again and it would drive reasonably, now i could have the car off for 3 hours and get the same issue.
So i'm wondering what your thoughts are on this problem and what else it could be. Ask if you need more information.
wires to TPS connected ok?? is the TPS been set up correctly? check it out for correct setting.
Ive only got a VP manual but it might be the same,Im not sure. It says - with the throttle valve in the fully closed position, install the TPS onto the throttle shaft at a position 30 degrees clockwise past the throttle position sensor retaining screw holes in the throttle body.Align the holes in the TPS with those in the throttle body, install the retaining screws.
check for smooth operation with multimeter. check setting with specs, i dont have any in front of me but im sure you can find them somewhere here.
get ya multimeter onto it.
Check the little tiny rubber spacer on the end of the TPS, it invariably falls out if you change the TPS with the throttle body on the car, and if you are not aware of it, you will put the new one in without it and the car will run just as bad as if you never changed it at all. Its a tiny little sucker, easy to miss, but makes a huge difference. Also check the VSS, if that is faulty, it can cause shifting problems as well. The VSS and the TPS work together to tell the gearbox when to change . Hope this helps.

I dont have pictures but the VSS is located right at the back of the transmission and is easily identified by the wires going to it. It is usually very simple to remove and replace.
