I know you guys are probably getting sick of newbies asking you this, but i would like conformation before i blow money i dont really have, haha.
I want a CAI for my VR, i've heard people talking about ones from Holden, where can i go to get em and how much are they? thought they were anywhere between $50 - $70.
Is there a totally wrong or right CAI to get for a VR? as long as it's mad for the buick 6 thats in my car you can't really go wrong can you?
Cheers for the help
MACE on here make a good CAI but will cost you around 200 i belive
Yer u can't go wrong I dnt think and eBay always has them cheap
Yeah i found this
NEW HOLDEN COMMODORE V6 VN VP VQ VR VS COLD AIR INTAKE - eBay, Other, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 26-Jun-10 11:23:48 AEST)
that's pretty much the cheapest on offer now;
but i did a search and lots of people said they picked em up from holden for a whole lot less than $100
Got mine from ebay for $55. My local Holdens wanted about $90 for it.
Go the one you got on ebay - VS S/C cai. will fit in perfectly with a bit of cutting your stock airbox - nothing a hacksaw blade cant do.
btw probably not best to blow money u dont have - it can pile up pretty fast![]()
Haha yeah i know, money's a turd, but im doing a few extra jobs later this week, earning some extra money, i've been neglecting doing things to my car and i thought i'd give it a present
Why bother. The supercharged 6 cai suffers from bad heat soak. Better off cutting the bottom of you airbox for free.
call me stupid, but bad heat soak meaning...what?
i reckon the mace CAI is the way to go. heat shielded POD filter.
COLD AIR INTAKE TO SUIT HOLDEN VR-VS V6 - MACE ENGINEERING GROUP
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
thats what i got ^ its heaps better then the panel setup with the super 6 cai
mate personally do what i done, if you good wit ure hands and tools, go buy some aliminuim sheet, u dont need much and is resombally cheap, make your own boy, bend it to shape, so dont get heaps thick sheet, couple of drain pipes with a couple of bends from the local hardware, total of about $15 lol, make sure u have a drill, half moon file, tin snips are helpfull as well, could do a DOY if u wanted, up to you, hers a pic of mine, its only a rough job this one, have a better and cleaner one in there now
and you can easily make a lid for it as well to make it look nicer, they are just a couple of rough pics with my first set up, up to you let me know, also with the dual cold air induction (i have to cold air pipes running to the one box) you get alot more perky response, also after long trips your car is not as sluggy because its not suckin in all the heat off ure engine bay, but let me know if you are interested or not, cheapest way if your lookin on saving coin mate
edit.. dont buy that shit off ebay man waste of money
Vs eco 3.8, extractors, 2.75" exhaust, roller rockers, cammed, bored out 20, t5 manual, rolling on king springs all way round with monroe gt shocks all way round, every door has a ding but looks can be very deceaving
Why bother spending any money on it at all? The way I have said is free assuming you have tools and works just as good if not better. The money you save can then go onto getting a nice reusable panel filter.
hey mate, i had the cia into the airbox for a while, cost me $65 off ebay and i cut my airbox to fit it, easy as job. i had this pod filter lying around so one day i decided to put it on. just use a piece of metal and bent it to sahpe and cut out slots for the cia scoop to port into it for a source of fresh air. bit dodgey and prob just go back to the air boxgd lkuck buddy
