Hi all, my vs v6 wagon died on my wife the other day. When I went to check it out, the car would start, but was idling very rough. As soon as you applied any throttle, the car just died. It started back up straight away though, and was still idling very roughly. I managed to limp the car home on idle (slow trip!). Now all the car does, is start fine, run for a couple of seconds, then just die. I can repeat this for as long as the battery lasts. Its not a starting problem, because it starts first crank all the time. Its more of a problem after the car starts. If i pump the throttle after it starts, i can keep it running very roughly, but its coughing and spluttering badly. After i stop pumping the throttle, the car just stops again. A couple of times, i could get the car to idle, but again was idling so rough. I did get it to free rev a couple of times though. If I applied the smallest amount of throttle, it coughed and spluttered, but slowly started to rev. I had the car free revving at about half throttle, but as soon as you tried to apply any more throttle, it would start to die again, like it was staring of fuel or something.
Ok, i've replaced plugs, leads, fuel filter, air filter. Still no difference. I can hear the fuel pump winding over when i turn the key. I also took the fuel line off at the rail, and there's fuel coming out. Its not spurting out heaps, just a small flow. Is this normal, or should it be coming out heaps more? Also when i replaced the fuel filter, i forgot to depressurise the fuel line, but when i took the filter out, no fuel came out of the lines. So i replaced the fuel pressure regulator. Still wont run. There's no error codes, so i'm a bit lost. Not sure if its a fuel or electrical problem. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
No, as i stated in my original post, there are no error codes. I haven't replaced the CAS yet. Where is it located?
CAS is behind the harmonic balancer at the front of the engine. You need a puller tool to remove the balancer to get to the CAS.The CAS itself just bolts on to the timing cover..
is it hard to get to?
bump .
check the CAS first if thats no good remove each lead individually to see if there is a problem with any of the cylinders and if its that goto mechanice
i would check for fault codes first, then if no codes are logged you could check the IAC on the throttlebody . IAC might not be working correctly or may be clogged with black gunk . if you have no luck yourself you will be better off taking the car to an auto electrician to diagnose the problem . from what you wrote about the fuel filter and not much fuel pressure when changing filter , because you didnt depressurise fuel lines , i suspect tired fuel pump. but might be CAS or airflow sensor , throttle position sensor, DFI ignition module , faulty ECU , memcal , so you are better off for an auto electrician to find the problem , instead of replacing parts at random. good luck with it.
