    Post VS OR VR Calais?

    Hi all.

I've been a member here for a little while, but have never posted a thread or anything, at the moment I'm looking at getting another Holden. I used to own a VL commodore, which I sold some time ago, and Now I'm looking into a VR or VS Calais.

Now the main influence for looking into a VR is the cream interior some of them come with. If I was to go get a VS Calais, it would be a series 2. I like the outer look of them. But the main thing that I will make my decision by is the engine. I know they have slightly different engines. But which one is better and is there any other differences between the VR and VS Series 2?

The difference in price between the 2 is insignificant but I am looking at creating this car to become a show car, so also a consideration would be which has the larger range of aftermarket parts?

If anyone has or knows of a decent, nice VR or VS Series 2 Calais for sale, also let me know

    Cheers.

I find the VS engine smoother and it's very efficient on the highway.
Overall I think the VS is a more well refined car. After all it's a later model.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

defo the VS series II, that would be my choice i prefer the look of the series II but i would be going for a V8 calais not a V6 if i had to choose from the VR or VS V6 i would go for the VS ecotec

Only consider a VR if you want a 5L, if your only wanting a V6, Ecotec all the way. (Preferably the Super6, but i'm assuming you didn't choose the V8 because of restrictions so thats out aswell)

If its a show car, then in the end the engine dosnt really matter, as long as you can polish it all up ok. If you like the cream interior(good luck finding a decently looked after one) then go for the vr, added benifit is its cheaper. A super 6 motor would be the go if its a show car, that would all polish up nicely(but that would have to be vs11). Not sure on your restrictions (p plates), but it will take you a long time to get the car up to scratch, especially if you are re-spraying, pulling the motor to polish and do the engine bay, interior, + heaps more. So its more then likely you'll never drive it before you get off your p's anyways, so get the motor you want >super 6 or v8.

The main prob with a vs calais is passenger airbag covers warp. Vr dont have them so the interiors look better for longer
Some say less talk more action. But I rekon more torque less traction!

I'd go the VS as it better in almost every way. As for the inside,if you like the cream colour that much its not hard to change the colour in the VS. Add cream colour suiede over anything that can be removed and presto

How hard would it be to make a VR look like a VS Series 2? Just bolt on or what? That would be simpler rather than getting an actual VS because I have found a VR that has a real nice cream interior, and how much are ecotecs these days? and is there a difference between the VS VT VX and VY ecotecs?

    Cheers

ecu is prob the biggest difference. Besides that, im pretty sure there's no realy issue swapping a few bits and putting a vy ecotec in a vr/s.

Deffinately get a VS, the IRS makes a huge difference handling wise and the intake manifold is far better designed
