Hi, i have a V6 VR S and ive been having some over heating issues.. i tried flushing the system and replaced my thermostat but still hasnt fixed it, my temps randomly hit 3/4 and even all the way in the red but i have noticed if i have the heater turned on the temp stays at 1/4 which is normal.
Im wondering does this mean i have a blockage somewhere? and when i turn on the heater its by passing the blockage? maybe my heater valve? any ideas of things i can try to issolate the problem would be appreciated thanks.
Id check the cooling fan circuit to make sure its working.Disconnect the temp sensor wiring at the engine(theres 2 temp sensors, not the single wire one,but the one with the plug) and start the engine. The cooling fan should start to rotate on low speed after around 12 seconds, then after a further 6 seconds the fan should switch to high speed. If the fan does this, the fan circuit is working normally, you can then rule it out as causing the problem.
I know my thermo is working cause when i turn on air con it turns on and ive seen it kick in at 1/2 temp, but with the thermo on it doesnt seem to help my temps at all.
if i drive at 110kmh the temp sits on just over 1/4 but as soon as i drop under 80kmh or start going up hills the temp starts to rise, its realy pissing me off because my last 2 VS had very similar over heating issues.
Check that you haven't got grass/insects etc blocking the front on the radiator and stopping the airflow....also is it has been run on straight water or cheap coolant the radiator tubes may be blocked. When the fan turns on, you should get a blast of hot air from the radiator just like opening the door of a hot oven . New radiators are on Ebay delivered to your door for under $100.

i considered replacing my radiator just for peace of mind but i was worried them $100 cheapies would just be a heap of crap.
Sounds like blocked radiator, I recently brought a 99 dolar radiator delivered to door, was a motorcool brand and has 12 months warrenty, and I am very happy with it, cheers Bob.
