    Default 3.8 Manual VR

    Hey guys,

Just an issue still with my manual v6 VR, it bites at the end of each clutch release making it impossible to smoothly shift, now when im slowing and downshifting (at the proper revs of course) its starting to make a grinding noise when putting it in gear, like the clutch isn't pressed ... i'm not too familiar with common clutch parts that go wrong in these ... spigot, pressure plate ?

    Appreciate the help

Sounds like the clutch isent dis-engaging enough before you change gears.

You sometimes can adjust this out with the cable adjuster, but I bet its your clutch fork pivot point. To adjust that you got to take your gearbox out to move one nut that will take you about 2 minutes

Better do it sooner then later aswell, cause it will stop you in traffic when the clutch finaly dosent want to dis-engage enough to let you shift.

Proberly just labour theres no parts involved, and with two people i get it in and out in about 6-8 hours depending on what else i do.

One thing that i overlooked is that its also possible to be a streched clutch cable, but Ive never come accross one in a commodore and dont know how common it is.

I did do the clutch cable before i adjusted my pivot point, for $60 it was worth a shot before i had to reip the gearbox out.

my gears were hard to change, i noticed the pedal assembly/boz had a crack in it so changed that n it was a bit betta, then my clutch cable snapped so i bought a new one and its fine now, so you may just need a new clutch cable but im not a mechanic so im not 100% sure

Just an update - Now when changing down gears in pretty much any gear it is grinding badly, i have to basically rapid shift the gear down, as soon as the clutch is released it goes away, i'm thinking definately Clutch cable is at fault not disconnecting the drive between the engine ?

What are the chances of all syncros slowly getting worse at the same time?

Seems impossible for me to think its the syncro's in mine as i have had it for about a month and was completely fine, then my clutch pedal got harder and harder to release smoothly, also it shifts almost perfect up gears

could also be your clutch fork? i had the same problem and replaced the clutch cable and it helped a bit, then a month or so later it completley ####ed out so i pulled the box out and the clutch fork was bent and had just started to crack...
