I'm looking at doing this on the weekend, Does anyone know of a step by step guide for changing out the oil, from what i can see its a 17mm allen key bolt, how much oil do i need to put through ... just a bottle worth ?

Well draining is pretty simple.
Dont know on amount but i think it was under 2L. There should be a allen key above the one you used to drain it. You fill it tell it reaches the top of that hole. I use a funnel on abount 1.5m of hose to fill it from the engine bay and just wait for it to overflow.
You could always check with your pinky to see if its full if your putting in measured amount to make sure it has filled up without overflowing.

According to the workshop manual the VN,VP and early VR manual boxes use 75W/80 gear oil.The late model VR and onward manual boxes use Dexron 111 (3) type automatic transmission fluid with 150 mls of lubrizol.
The oil/fluid capacity for a manual box is 2 litres.
