VS Series II Ute help!
My boyfriend has just bought a ute, except he isn't a fan of the bench seat.
I was just wondering, how complicated would it be to convert it from the bench seat into a 2 seater with a middle console? Also, what would the cost be like?

its easy to convert, all you need is regular seats and the center console, it will bolt right in. The hand brake is on the right hand side it can either stay there or you can move it to the middle, either way and it will work .

Are you positive that they just bolt in?
His hand break is on the right hand side, will that get in the way when putting the drivers seat in?
Also, how much and where should I be looking for seats and the middle console?
yes 110% positive they will bolt in i have done this before, and no the handbrake wont get in the way where it is now, you will pick up a pair of stock VS ute seats for around $50 and a center console from $20-$50, i have just dumped 2 VS ute stock seats at the tip because i couldnt sell them

$50 per seat i'm guessing? And would the seats and console be called anything different? you should find a pair for $50, i was trying to sell a pair for ages and got no takers so i dumped them.
Any seats will fit, sedan ute or wagon, from VN-VS.
you should find a cheap pair of VS seats, and the center console is the same from VN-VS, only difference between ute and wagon/sedan senter console is that the wagon/sedan center console has vents in the rear, but they will still fit in a ute! and you cant really see the vents when fitted to a ute.

im doing the same in my vp ute, as for moving the handbrake, all you need is the handbrake assembly from any other vp right right? the cable doesnt change or anything like that?
also someone else mentioned maybe having to have an engineering report as its swapped from three to two seater, is this correct?
Wouldnt think you would need one as it is a factory option, not a custom modification.
haven't been very successful in finding any seats or consoles.. are you able to help me out with some links?

one of those consoles is a black calais one, in frankston, if it wasnt on the eastern side id be getting that myself, but cant be ****ed driving that far.

none of those links really helped. they're either too expensive, too damaged or not the right sort.
they are the right sort, wrong colors maybe. what color dash has it got? That is about the cheapest you will find anywhere, even local wreckers will be around the same price bracket, and they will just tear em out of the car and leave you to clean em up and look good. Most ebay sellers will at least give it a clean up. There is several non damaged consoles in there. if its a manual ute, you will also need to buy the insert for the console, thats going to be an extra 50 odd bucks.

it has the stock grey/black console, and no it's not manual.
most of those consoles have a spot of a hand break to go, but he doesn't want to change where the hand break is.. so that leaves a hole in the console.. :S
also, with the seats.. you said i should be able to find a pair for $50, but they're all more expensive then that.. either that, or they are in terrible condition.
are there any other websites that sell these sorts of things?
to the best of my knowledge, they ALL have the handbrake slot, it isnt a hard job to move the handbrake, or you could fill the gap if he is handy. or even just remove the sleave and leave it, it might look a bit funny but wont be an issue.
As for seats, if you want quality you will pay around the $100 plus mark, you can get seats cheaper, but they will be very dirty at the least, if not torn, If you want cheap ones, maybe just get some dirty looking ones and put seat covers over it. Some other auction sights might have some, but would undoubtedly be the same ones, ebay is the biggest auction site so sellers go there first. Only other sites that have them would be retail and they would charge an arm and a leg for new ones.
maybe keep the bench seat and save for a bit so you can do the job properly. it will come to a couple hundred at least.... seats, console, handbrake.
try going to garage sales, you never know what you might find. could stumble across something cheap that will fit. call around the wreckers, maybe one has something overstocked and is offering them cheaper.

all center consoles have the hole for the handbrakeand as for the seats being in bad condition, if you want cheap seats then you will have to buy some dirty ones and give them a steam clean!! You did ask for cheap ones.. cant have the best of both worlds, if you want pristine condition ones be prepared to pay top dollar.
okay, now i have another question. :P
it's not seat or console related.
how much would it cost to convert a gear stick from behind the steering wheel to the middle part? (where the console should be..)
if that makes sence?
