manual wont go into gear properely

hey guys i have a vs v6 with a getrag gearbox and about 20mins ago wen i was driving i pulled up at the lights and when i went to put it into 1st it didnt go all the way in gear if you no what i mean like it felt like it is stopped by something from going all the way in when i take off in first i have to hold it in gear otherwise it pops out and it makes a clunk when i take off it does this in 1st 3rd and 5th only but like 2nd 4th and rverse are fine. does this mean that im up for a new gearbox or is there a way to fix it that anyone knows of?

At a guess I'd say it's just the shift lever that's come loose or somehow out of adjustment - the clue is that 1st, 3rd and 5th are in the same plane....the lever is being prevented from moving forward to properly select these 3 gears. So I wouldn't panic. Someone else on this forum will no doubt give you an exact answer.
