so i heard a horrible clunk coming out from underneath my car and after a little investigation i discovered the rubber drive coupling or doughnut that goes between the gearbox and the tailshaft had deteriorated so much that it was actually not there anymore.
The clunk was the bolts from the gearbox banging into the bolts from the tailshaft. ugly
so when trying to remove the tail shaft, after removing the diff bolts and the center bearing bolts i could still not get the shaft out, ended up using a winch around the diff and a sling on the shaft near the dounghtnut end. eventually it popped off to reveal the rubber and strands out of the rooted coupling had found there way into the spiggot and melted onto it. not cool.
what i need to know is what the gearbox spiggot looked like originally, so i know how much of this crap i have to take off.
i will get photos up soon, you gotta see the sh!t fight
also i have been quoted 225 from repco a replacement rubber drive coupling. sound right??
cheers
Jon

what the gearbox looks like now
more of the gearbox
the only evidence ther ever was a rubber coupling. the rest of it is melted all over the exhaust and wraped around the diff. thought i had run over a rat or somthing![]()
HOLY! your kidding.... aww man i feel so bad right now i had my tailshaft off literally 4 hours ago replaing a rear universal joint if i knew i would have taken photos but i remember what mine ooks like and basically anything that looks like rubbe has to go there should be no rubbe or anything bar the dampener... (which seems to have magically dissapeared on yours)
