Default noisy lifters since new coolant was added

Hi just wondering if any one can help. My husband was driving my VR with just water in it, he has now put coolant in and has bled it. Now there is a loud clacking noise sounds like the lifters.
Do I put heavier oil in or maybe a additive to clean them. It has always run at half way on the temp gauge, it was also going up to three quarters and would just stop and would start straight away, now with the new coolant it runs at quarter on the temp gauge.
    Thanks

cut the base off a milk carton or coke bottle and stick into radiator filler so filling water level is higher than thermostat housing open valve, add water till all air flows out of valve and nothing but coolantor water comes out.

The noise could also be coming from another source so first I'd try and locate it - check the harmonic balancer plus all pulleys. Lifters usually may a more click type of noise...may an oil/filter change will do some good and it wouldn't hurt to add some "stop lifter noise" stuff....that's if you are sure it's the lifters. You should be running 20W50 oil. Temps seem pretty right so I'd say that's OK. Good Luck.

We checked the harmonic balance and it was fine only replaced it 5 months ago. we put the engine flush in and ran the motor for 15 min and no more noise. we are putting in good oil and new filter and some lifter free. will get back and let you know how we go. Thanks for the advice this is a great forum has helped us a great deal. have a great day.

Just go and buy Nulon Lifter Free. It works wonders.

You will find its just sheer co-incedence that the lifters started making noise after a coolant change. Ive had nothing but co-incedental things happen when working on cars...

Thanks we did the engine flush and got a lot of black sludge out then put in good quality oil and lifter free. hey presto no noise and more power. thank you guys appreciate your input.
My brother said never use the e10 fuel as it causes a lot of build up and is a dirty fuel. he told me to use premium. and put a injector cleaner in.
I think i was just unlucky that the lifters played up just after the coolant change. that is cars for you. keep you poor.

I use E10 fuel and have done so since it came out - haven't had one ounce of a problem so there are always 2 sides to any story. To be honest, I only use it because it is the cheapest - 10 to 20% below premium but that's a good enough reason for me. Always buy from a high volume fuel station as well...less chance of water/contaminents in their fuel. I find now that it's not cars that keep me poor - it's those damn grandkids.

I heard shell fuel is crap, read on the vl turbo forums they run shit with shell fuel which indicates low octane, not buying bp fuel on principal on ****ing up the ocean, so caltex is my pick, get the shop a dockets and say few bucks filling gas and petrol same time, stay away from ethonol fuel, leave residue on lifters which effects economy and reliability.

You will probably have to use lifter free additive everytime you change the oil. No biggy though.
