Default L67 conversion OR 5L conversion in vs commy??

Hey guys, just wondering wats the better engine for a conversion

Im liking the L67 for the fuel economy and the sound of the charger, but the 5L for its noise and power.

What are the rough costs for doing a L67 conversion into a VS with a t5 box? Will the pacemaker extractors that I have on my ecotec fit the L67, and how is the standard diff gonna hold up?

    Opinions and advice appreciated

for me it would be the 5.0 with out doubt, IMO the 6cyl sounds crap.
A V8 conversion will prob cost less to do that L67 $1500 should see you with all major parts needed.

personally id go a supercharged v6 as they are more developed. and easier to get extra power in my opinion.

and thats coming from someone who owns a 5 litre.

I am a V8 person but to be honest if the car is already a V6 better off swapping to an L67

The V8 sounds mean and goes hard but you will save money in petrol when you don't need that extra power and with a few little mods you will more then likely outrun some 8's.

I would reluctantly disagree, super6 goes harder then the 8, i've never kept up with one. The biggest prob with the 8's is they are to low in compression and a bit sluggy, good down low and not very good up top.

so leanin towards a L67 swap and a 10psi pulley kit at the moment. nobody got any reasons on why a 5L conversion wuld be better?

also wondering on the rough costs of the L67 swap, whether my standard open wheeler diff will be up for it (gonna get a lsd centre for it), and if my pacey extractors will fit the L67

ummm the only reason i can think off to justify the 5lt is that sweet v8 rumble.
whats the difference between my missus and my blower??
well they both whine but the blower actually puts out

5l sound hot the gargle, lumpy cam and chargers get tired on top end where 5l can keep climbing where l67 fail but with power you can consider the l67

I would want both I own a stock l67 stato so heavy stock charger

it does the job for me look at the l67tourqe forum and u can see what ppl r running 11s - 10s unopened

really u can't have the best of both worlds unless u get the 5l and put a 5l terracharger or raptor

    most to v8 5l owners won't suggest a 6 l67 FYI not a bad thing just once u go 8 u don't go back haha

when i first put the l67 in mine i were a bit disappointed with the powr difference compared to the ecotec i had. and thought i should have gotten a gen3 instead. but just with the 10psi pulley and exhaust and couple more other things, (cai,100mm intake, pod,) im pretty stoked with it.
petrol costs enough just for a v6, a v8 would really suck.

i were told a l67 with 10psi, rockers, extractors, exhaust, and 3.4? diff gears that you will see low 14 second pass's down the 1/4 and would beat stock ls1's off the lights and also mild 5 litres.

That is impressive seeing they are only 6s, 8s will always prevail v8 stock vs V6S/C stock, you gotta do a bit of work to a V6 S/C to be able to beat a v8 5l off the line, which is a sad fact I think.

It is almost cheaper to get an 8 (you got the power, you will beat all 6s (stock or mild modified) off the line, you have the sweet rumble), but one of the guys said it, if you want to play with your car and do mods to see real true potential get a V6S/C.

The L67 will have the full exhaust system, 10psi pulley kit and 3.45 diff gears (well thats the starting plan), but in my head im thinking more of a sleeper build, so the V6 is looking better as the idle note is roughly the same as the ecotec, until its opened up and all hell breaks loose with that supercharger whine.

YouTube - ICULKN supercharged V6 (the white VT ICULKN)

But yes that sweet rumble of the 5L would be very nice as well, it just takes away some of the sleeper aspect of the build i wuld like to do. I know that most V8 owners would rather crucify any V6, i wuld just like to know the benefits and rough costs of doing either conversion.

Super6 are good for being sleepers, but how much work and money has he spent on it? Wouldn't mind knowing myself.

    Consider:

The V8 will put another 40-50kgs on the front end of the car,. The L67 is not much heavier than the standard engine. That weight is further back also. = + new springs and a handicap w' respect to handling.

Yes, your current V6 extractors will fit the L67; the heads are the same casting, just the holes for the injectors are drilled into the L67 heads.

The V6 bottom end is much stronger than the V8, even though the forces are only spread across 6 cylinders.

A pulley and boost is cheaper and easier than a cam and lifters (first steps). Easier to reverse for resale also.

Accessories - alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor for the L67 are shared with the NA V6 = easier spares if they happen to fail.

Duno how much $$ was spent, but i had the pleasure of doing a skid pan day and he was there, it made a bloody awesome noise.

Alrite sweet thats a big plus, as well as the spare parts.

Seems lyk the L67 conversion is more likely to occur than the 5L

Yeah I mean we are all leaning that way one way or the other (for a sleeper)

if you gonna do lots of mods go 5L you could always rebuilt stroker and put a blower on that, if just bolts on go the l67 for sure
