VR Transmission . Leaking From Speedo Transducer ?

Hiya All ,

The Trans in my VR has been playing havoc in my car for the last few weeks , so last night i took it down to Ultratune , just to have a nosy under the car and see if there was anything amiss .

The Tech found 2 leaks in the system , one being a rubber hose which had split , and the other from the "speedo transducer" .

I paid 150 OMGWTF to get the split hose fixed and fluid topped up , but couldnt cover the additional 300+ for getting the transducer replaced .

After reading some of the other forum posts , there seems to be a reccuring issue with an O'ring inside the transducer , My questions are

The leak from the transducer , are they usually a strong leak , or can i hold out for 2-3 weeks while waiting for tax cheque

Can i replace this 1 dollar O'ring myself , and if so , is it easy to accomplish ?

Any tools / equip i might need and some tips would be greatly appreciated , as i really dont wanna have to spend another 300 just to keep her going .

You can do the o ring yourself I'm pretty sure how ever some times they do actually leak from the middle of the sensor which means it will need replacing which is what is happening to me. I got a quote for $140 to fit a new unit. So I don't know why it would be any different any where else. The only thing I can see it affecting is the speedo reading. Mine sticks under WOT and I obviously lose fluid. No error codes have been logged though. Just keep an eye on the fluid level and it will be fine.

None of the speedo operations themselves are playing up , all the dials sweep along fine .

I dont really have a problem fixing it , just wanted to be sure i wasn't getting shafted around ,

140 you say ? hmm , may have to shop around for some quotes first then .

Probably best. Takes sfa time to swap them out according to my local transmission place. The unit it self was $120 and $20 for fitting. Don't leave it too long but. Just found out my gearbox mount is stuffed due to the oil leaking on it.
