Is there any way to check the fuel sender without taking everything apart. Can you maybe earth out one of the wires to see if the gauge is working at all? If not what should i do? Thankyou
If you have a Level 3 cluster you can check the volts comming from the sender within diag mode (2). A multi meter would probably do the same job if you have L2 cluster. 4.4 = full and 10.0 = empty or something like those numbers from memory.

Earthing the wires isn't a good idea because it can damage the gauge but you can chack the gauge and measure the resistance of the sender.
Check at the white plug on the front of the sender. Unpug it - it will have three terminal positions but only the outer two are used. Put a ~270 ohm resister across the terminals on the harness end, ignition "on", the gauge should read empty; 100 ohm, half; ~40 ohm full.
The sender in the tank should have the same resistances across the terminals corresponding to the level in the tank - guess, dip with a wire or smack the tank.
There should be 10V on the tan wire at the harness terminal.
just tap the dash, most of the time the dash plays up.
