Cool thanks. Hopefully I can still use my standard sway bar/link rod as well.

I thought I'd throw a pic in as to what I'm looking at getting. Apparently they are from a VZ senator?
    Are they true coil overs?

The link pins will not match up with your sway bar mate.

Easiest way to be sure would be to go and get a few parts catalogs from the websites of shock and strut manufacturers and see if the part numbers are the same. They look pretty worn though, looks like you would have to bolt in the swaybar links from your VR or get a set of better after market ones.

They kinda look like coilovers, but not as I know them - all the coilovers that I've seen look like this (coilover on left, regular strut on right) -

Those struts are from a VX Series 2 to VY. The VZ has a ball joint end on both ends of the sway bar link pins.

I believe that statement is wrong.
All the HSV Z range I have seen (including my own Senator) have been fitted with VX2-VY style strut.
Maybe HSV did it to save cost of engineering a strut for one single model or maybe the VY strut was deemed good enough for the Z until the VE came out.
    To the OP (chirpstr):
The struts you pictured will fit your VR using your VR link pins with no problems .
The same style strut was used from VR-VY .

They are definitely not HSV std they look like coil overs using a VR-VZ irs style rear spring .

They are not an IRS rear spring out of a Commodore as the coils are different thicknesses and diameter top and bottom on the Commodore spring. Somebody went to a lot of effort to modify standard struts to take those springs. They look like they are adjustable, but I don't see any threads cut into the strut.
