    Default VS starter motor problem

Recently over the weekend the starter motor went in my VS acclaim, I replaced it with one I purchased from a mechanic, it worked great for a day, went to start my car again today and all it's doing is clicking like the previous starter motor, is there something shorting it out? Is it something else entirely?

    All help is appreciated

Could be the started wire from the battery to the starter motor.
Easy way to test, disconnect battery, and very carefully with a set of jumper leads connect the positive to the positive part on the starter motor and then back to the Positive of the battery. Leaving the negative disconnected and in a safe position.
Hook the battery back up (you will have put the positive of the jumper lead on to the terminal of the postive). Once hooked up, try and start the car.
the starter lead can break down over time, and enough current cannot get through. Around $25 from an auto-lec to get one made up.

By connecting the positive jumper lead to the starter motor do you mean the positive terminal? What do you mean back to the positive of the battery? Thanks for the help but I don't quite understand

I suck at explainign this, I explained it to one guy leaving out the safety aspect of doing it, and he kept shorting shit out so I tryed to be a bit more detailed.

You want to use a single jumper lead to run from the positive on the battery to the positive terminal on the starter motor. Its quite a tight fit on the started motor so you need to be careful not to short it out (hence having the battery disconnected whilst doing this part). Once its connected, and the battery connected again, you are now providing the starter motor an alternative to recieve current then the normal wire. If the the car starts, its a good sign the original starter motor wire is stuffed.

Nah you're right mate it's probably just me.

If it was the starter motor wire, why would it start yesterday and not today? Is it something that can sometimes work, and sometimes not?

Not 100% sure, but I done the same as you. Replaced starter motor, it worked once, then wouldnt start again, it turned out to be the cable after we tested as above.

Alright, I'll give it a try I guess, was it difficult to change the wire? I hated changing the starter motor in it's position I could only imagine how Holden mapped the wire in the engine bay.

Not really. It runs down the side, across the top of the front bit of the sump and backup. takes a bit of time to unwrap it and rewrap it back up, but no more then an hour.

Problem solved, ended up being the battery and lead terminals, they were pretty rusted and corroded, cleaned them up with sand paper and no issues since, thanks for the help fellas
