hey all,
just purchased a 5.0 statesman & it keeps cutting out while driving without warning - normally while slowing down to go round a corner or after sitting idling for a while will just cut out.
it has had a full service & they found a plug on the engine loom not plugged in properly but nothing else.
has been fine for the last few days but started cutting out again today.
it has always started straight away afterwards.
have heard of a few things it could be
ignition module , crank angle sensor - any other ideas?
its driving me nuts.
Does it only do it when your low on fuel. Have you changed the fuel filter? They can cause some trouble like that. Unfortunatly though somthing like that can be a few things. I'm thinking fuel pressure. If you have access to a gauge whack it in and see. It maybe the regulator on the rail. It could be a lose fuel line clamp on the back of the rail also. It potentially could be the pump, but i would get that gauge in first to see before swapping it out.
It could also be the distibutor or coil playing up also, but i would expect that you would not be able to restart straight away if that were the case.
Also have you done an error code check, it could simply be a faulty sensor. Search how to check error codes for info, you'll need a paper clip.
does not matter how much fuel is in it - the mechanic checked for error codes & there were none.
will try swapping out the ignition module off another car. will also get the fuel pressure checked - thanks VrWagz1.
thanks for the info bandit - will try swapping that out too as they are reasonably cheap.
car has done 250k so I was expecting some issues.
ok guys update - I reckon it's the ignition module - stopped on me today again & would not start.
got out & tapped the silver button on the ignition module & it fired up straight away.
thanks for the input.
