    Question Transmission help!

    Hi guys.
I no this has prob been covered a million times but ill ask anyways..
I have an early 95 VS commodore with a stuffed gearbox. I also have a Late 94 VR thats been smashed but has a 5HDD gearbox in it. Is it possible for me to take the 5HDD from the vr and put in the VS? Will it just be a straight swap? Thanks guys!!

Even tho the one out of the VR is a 5HDD? Its confusing everywhere u look has a different answer? The transmisson in the VS only get 1st and 3rd gear. Was really hoping that the one from the VR would fit.

The VS came out in April '95 with the 5HDD box - I'd check the electrical plugs to the transmission - if they are exactly the same with identical pins. My rapidly declining brain recalls reading on this forum many moons ago that late model VR's had the same box as the VS.....but, as usual, I am not 100% sure.....so I would not dismiss it - get under the car, pull the plugs and start counting pins.

VR 12 pin VS 13 pin, check your VS if it is a early one it may stil use a 12 pin. IF they are both the same number of pins it will work

VN-VY had the 4L60E V6 and V8 just different models of the same box!

5HDD means the box was made in 1995 (5) 6HDD means the box was made in 1996 (6) Both are 4L60E boxes but the digit refers to the year made.
The 4L60E box for the V8 has a different identification as it's a bit heavier inside and has the deep pan.
