Hi everyone, have recently purchased my first Holden, a VS Berlina V6 (usually a Subaru enthusiast!).
Engine was running ok, although idle was a bit up and down sometimes (but not much) so I decided to give the throttle body and IAC a clean with brake clean.
I was told to push the IAC plunger all the way in and reset the ECU, which I did. But when I started it after disconnecting the battery, it idled like a bag of shit, to the point where it shakes and stalls, with revs 'idling' around 500rpm and lower.
I've tried holding revs and 3000rpm for 30 seconds but it hasn't seemed to have changed anything. Have done quite a bit of research on the forums and this was supposed to have fixed it but it won't.
Any ideas?
brake cleaner? You should use Carby or Throttlebody cleaner, If you get that kind of highly corrosive substance on sensors you will kill them, have you checked for fault codes? This would be the first thing to do to check for failed sensors. Did you only spray it in the pelium chamber or did you clean all the intake pipes and sensors? The MAF sensor is in the intake pipe down near the air filter box.
VS Error Code Check
Solved, after much mucking around I finally found a vacumn leak - a hose coming from the underside of the throttle body wasn't connected (think it may go to fuel regulator or something?). Running sweet now after a full service!
Hey while I'm at it, wheres the fuel filter on these things? And are they a bitch to change?
under the rear Axel arch drivers side, pretty easy just pull the fuel pump fuse while the car is running, it will stall and the fuel pressure will then be low, just undo the hose clamps and change over.
The fuel filter is under the rear of the car in front of the fuel tank. Before you remove it,just let the engine idle, and while its idling, remove the fuel pump replay. This will stall the engine after a few seconds, this procedure clears the residual fuel pressure that is usually still in the fuel lines after the engine is turned off, this just stops it spraying everywhere when the filter is undone. The fuel pump relay is under the bonnet in the fuse box.
Cheers, all changed sweet.
