Hi all, First time post here and I hope I don't sound to noob, but I have a question about my car.
I bought a VS V6 Excutive Commodore 95 model a few months back now, everything was fine untill it overheated this one time, I took it to a mechanic after having it towed home and he said I was lucky cause I didn't do any serious damage. All was fixed and all seemed well untill just recently when the radiator tube blew off without seeming to overheat at all, I got it home and noticed the whole pipe was alittle lose so I tightned it up and all seemd well. After noticing the coolant in the little tank thingy (not the radiator) pooling underneath my car I took my car in and got it looked at again and the guy said it was fine and just replaced the heater tap and cleaned things up alittle, now 2 days later I have no coolant in that same spot again and I'am very confused. What's going on!!!!!!!!!!! Also sorry about the epic wall of text.........
Have you checked for any leaks? When the coolant evaporates it usually leaves a white residue. Did the mechanic pressure test your cooling system? As Seraphic said was the air bled out of the system properly? I'd also suggest checkingthe radiator cap it may be faulty and not allowing the coolant to return once the engien has cooled down.
Also are you sure the coolant is still at the correct ratio?
I have very little knowledge of cars as you can probably tell, he said nothing about any of those thing's and I said I needed thing's looked over >< maybe time to try a new mechanic???
Take it to a radiator place or a different mechanic and get them to do a pressure test on the cooling system. This test will tell you if there are any leaks in the cooling system components like the radiator, inlet manifold gaskets and head gaskets, radiator and heater hoses and the heater core. These V6's are well known for leaking inlet manifold gaskets once they get a few km's on the clock, which can cause all sorts of cooling system problems..Its easy and fairly cheap to replace the gaskets if you do the work yourself.
Thanks you very much.
