Default large banging sound when coming off throttle at high rpm?? vs v6 manual ute

Ok, i have noticed sometuing when driving my vs series 3 manual ute. ill be driving her nice and everthing is fine, as soon as i give her abit of shit in first, e.g taking off, ill accelarate hard and ill come off the pedal and there is a loud banging from the left hand side of the motor, i can over come this only by very slowerly easing off the gas.

The problem is seeming to get worse and realy frustrating me, i had a look today and under hard accelaration it seems as the whole left side of the car is lifitng higher then the right side, could this be the enigne mounts?

Ive had a quick look under and the left one seems to have a crack in it but im not sure what im realy looking for in a worn or broken engine mount. has anyone had a problem like this before and from the noise i am hearing it dosent sound like its doing the motor anygood.

    cheers, anton

If it looks like a crack in it then it's stuffed. These mounts are hydraulic and once the oil leaks out they become like a solid mount. When my cars left mount was stuffed you could feel the engine vibration and worse when the ac was on. I found the left side was the easiest to replace and so I haven't done the rhs one as yet although it needs replacing too.

Certainly sounds like it. I have had this problem before and it was the engine mounts. Drivers side mount is easy passenger side is a pain in the bum.

yep mate check your mounts, rev it hard in neutral you should see it tilt,or give it a hard budge, something is being like a ford.
some times can even be gearbox mounts.

Does it have more of a shake/shudder than usual when it's not under load? eg sitting at lights in neutral?

put your car up on stands, get a jack under the sump of the engine (block of wood between jack and sump) and jack the engine up, you will see the mount separate if its stuffed, you can also support the weight of the engine this way when changing the mounts just dont forget to use a bit of wood between jack and sump

This way is all good until you come across a weaker then normal sump, then its not as dandy.

a weaker than normal sump.. righto joker.. more "useful" comments from you.
the sump of a engine will support the weight of the engine its self with out any dramas so long as the weight is spread by using the piece of wood!! and not just the head of the jack straight on to the sump..
