I've got a VR S1 V6 with extractors and a 2.5" exhaust, but still have the stock airbox with that tiny stock air intake pipe. I'm looking into getting an OTR Cold Air Intake and a High Flow Panel Filter. I hear these give a slight power boost and improved fuel economy, but most importantly, will make the car sound better.
Main thing i'm looking for is improved exhaust note. Air Filter Wise, would i be better of with a K&N hi-flow or a Lukey hi-flow? CAI wise, i have no idea? I see most people use the same one that the SS commodores have, but i hear there's other options such as SS inductions?
Good luck getting a better exhaust note out of a simple filter change mate. The cheap Drift brand panel filter works good for the price. Your better off just making the hole on the bottom of the airbox bigger. The OTR intakes suffer from heat soak bad.
Changing your intake will not change your exhaust note. Yes you may have an altered induction sound and yes you may find you get slightly better fuel economy, but your exhaust note won't change.
So you're saying i'm best off to remove the small intake tube, cut a bigger hole in the airbox, change filters and leave it at that?
Cheers, i got a little confused before. I meant to ask if the induction sound would change due to having a CAI. Some people say there's a slight roar under acceleration.
The MACE set up has a definite induction sound.
Yep cut the bottom of the airbox bigger. So easy and work's better then a heat soaking OTR.
if u wanted serious exhaust note alteration and a major induction nise then get some turbo love other then that,,,the ss induction or the one from holden and a k&N panels sound alright
i've been hearing that K&N panel filters don't fare too well in the filtration department so im giving them a miss, and am looking at either a Lukey or Drift panel filter.
I hear both arent bad at all, but is one significantly better than the other?
I doubt there's any noticeable difference between a K&N and a Drift brand filter. I have run both and have noticed no difference besides the extra money in my wallet from the cheaper Drift filter. The only thing you miss out on is a cool little sticker with the Drift filter.
i run a lukey air filter in mine, does the job fine tho standard HSV CAI and wasnet over the top expensive..
