Default vn v8 motor and trans into vr v8

Hi guys' searched everywhere and thought its time to ask, I bought a vn calais with the 5 litre and t700 (with cable) Because the engine and trans in my vr is still a while off being finished. Any way I spent 3 days putting the engine AND trans into the vr only to find out the wiring loom was different. I managed to get it to go using the vr computer with my modded chip for the stoker engine and changing the dizzy plug. now I need to find out if I can sort the wiring for the trans with out buying any more computers/chips or wiring looms or reprograming anything. The 4l60e is flairing in top gear when you give it some stick so I really dont want to put it back in. Also the vr oxy sensor is not presantly hooked up as I have to remove the bung from the calais headers. ( Installed calais headers as vr ones I had where a mission to get back in!) Depending on the computer and loom I end up using as to weather I will install it.
    Cheers, Jay

I am pretty sure you could have used the VN ECU tyen you wouldn't need to change the gearbox. If you have the want to use the VR stuff you will need a 4l60e gearbox. The car will run like a dog without the oxy sensor hooked up should run very rich.

Yeah we're pretty lucky over here in New Zealand we can do all sorts for now, but i noticed we have new laws and regs always coming out usually following Aust. I would love to live there but you guy's have got it tough and I love the freedom to do mostly anything to my cars.

im in vic, and just last year i fitted a VN 5.0 to a VR 6cyl and got it registered at vic roads with no problems at all i used all the other VR running gear loom ecu dizzy auto etc from a V8 VR.. but they never said anything about it being a VN motor in a VR they just updated the engine number on there records and changed it from 6cly to 8cyl let me register it.

I know the law states same year or newer engine.. just saying i had no problems fitting a VN 5.0 to a VR..

Thanks delcowizzid, And then does the speedo wires from the t700 that go up through the floor 3 wires- 1 goes to earth, 1 goes to 12v, 1 goes to signal wire behind the glovebox or do i have to use gauges out of vn calais doner? need to get a wof asap.

nah the vr gauges will work but the tune needs tweaked to not hit the speed limiter early the vn dah is normally in between the speed sensor and ecu and changes the amount of pulses the ecu sees but with vr dash you will be going directly into the ecu with speedo pulses so it will hit the fuel cut

lol what? sorry dude I'm a dumb ass but for what I gather vn comp/loom engine and trans in vr body with speedo hooked up as i described will go but go into fuel cut early unless I get ecu tweaked. The big question is will it be drivable or am I just kidding myself into believing this was possible... Also are you coming through this way anytime soon and able to do sum "tweaking"? ...please? lol

will run fine just will cut out at a lower speed you could leave the ecu speedo feed out and it wont cut out but wont lock the torque convertor at 80kmh or i can just send up a tune to stop it happening

I'm prob going to go outside in the rain (supprise it's cold, raining and now dark outside in taupo where I'm working on my car) and take out the vr wiring again and put in the vn wiring soon and oh forgot about converter lockup, I guess I would have to run the wires for that too... Yeah I need a wof asap thats why I'm trying to get the speedo sorted. Also whats involved in getting the tune?
