    Default Brakes what the?

    hey guys

On my VS for for a while the brakes were soft took about 3 quarter pedal to stop and apparently before I owned it you would have to pump the pedal to get pressure back or the pedal would slowly move down as you were stopped but still held however I never had that problem since I have owned it.

The car was fitted with new brakes not long before I got it, but what has me stumped is yesterday I drove the car and the brakes were so firm that I barely had to touch the pedal to stop and if I hit it too hard prob would have given me whiplash, what could cause the sudden change?

This sounds like a faulty (bypassing) master cylinder.
    Quite dangerous.

This sounds like a booster fault. Most likely the reaction disc is buggered as this controls pedal feel.

Either way, this needs to be fixed ASAP, if not sooner.

I will check your vacuum hose from the booster to the rocker cover to see if there is a leak before buying other parts,it maybe a rubber gromet not sealing or the hose has cracks .also check that your vacuum valve is not stuck and if the motor is sucking air thru your brake booster hose

A 1 inch master and older style vn/p/r will work if you dont have abs. If you have abs your better off with the 15/16 master. The only thing you will need to look at is the position of the brake lines. You may need to bend them around abit. I would only do all of this if you can get all the stuff for free. If you have to buy stuff, you mise well buy the same vs gear.

    Thanks for the help guys

I will have a look a little later at all the lines and check for any leaks, and from what I can tell the booster has been replaced before as it says PBR 2006 on it, so maybe its just the cylinder and a vac hose. there currently nothing decent on ebay and it don't have abs so guess my options are a little more limited.
