Hey guys ive got a 96 VS calais, when i bought the car the bloke said its had a vt ecotec engine put in.
just wondering if the gearbox would have been changed with the engine, and is there a way to check what type of gearbox you have? because im having alot of trouble with the gears slipping into neutral at random, and also the annoying delay when i have to put it in drive.
cheers
The 6HDD means its 1996 and the 7HDD means 1997. Dont worry bout it there both ecotec and the same. Az for the slipping check your torque converter, Its best to leave the converter with the box it came with and not the motor its on or come off.
Mine did this when the TPS was buggered, $200 peace of plastic!!!
Checked the oil when hot and running?
Cheac the shifter linkage, make sure its in the gear you want and not half in nutral and drive etc!
Tryed a flush in there then service it?
If not when droping the oil take one oil trans line off and run the motor till its empty then take the pan off and flush the trans cooler on its own to.
Theres a difference between the boxes tho. Its got to go with the sensors or relays or servos, i cant remember, if you have a 7HDD box installed and was suited to that computer you can not use a 6HDD, you can use a 8HDD tho, you just can go backwards. Jump under the car, passenger side, the rear of the sump, just above the gasket itll have the model stamped into it.
