    Exclamation Vr 5.0 ute has a miss around 4000rpm

    hey people as you guys may know that i know STUFF ALL about holden based 5.0

    i just brought a VR 5.0 ute and it has a pretty harsh miss at around 4000rpm

    any ideas or common problems on 5.0 that cause this . . . .

    it has new 10mm leads, but im thinking maybe replace dizzy cap and rotor

    any other thoughts my lil 5.0 guru's ???

    Its the age old thing with these. The ignition system has only a few components that cause issues and its hit and miss with this stuff when you have a miss. Could be simply a dicky plug or lead and these are usually the cheapest replacements to start at. Failing that move onto dizzy cap and coil, both being a bastard to change. Do a search on moving the coil, if you have to replace it, it is very much worth your effort to simply move it ont the fire wall instead of buried down the back of the motor. The last thing that is known to play up is the ignition module(the aluminium finned thing) mounted on the passenger strut tower. This is about $100-150 but when it plays up it usually dies totally and you get no spark.

    i would also like to add that on closer inspection it seems that when it starts to miss under load at 4000rpm it is also pinging its ass off !! im stumped for ideas now

    might of bumped the timing out when the leads were installed, grab a timing light and check if its round the mark it should be at
