Cool Insurance costs for P platers + cracked engine mounts. (how to fix/costs)

Hey guys. Just after some information on insurance cost's costs for when your on your Ps. (I'm on my greens) I have full comp for my car and insurance for $5,500 and we paid a bit at the start because the car had been off the road for over a year. But total was $1200 ish (that included everything and more)

But we are going to be paying about $550ish a year I think from memory (probably wrong) and I'm thinking of getting another car. (my partner is going full time and I'll be carless) I have no problem finding a good car etc, just wondering information.

    How much? (month/year)
    Who's it with? (nrma/etc)
What cover? (just there car etc)
Is your car under your parents name and your a listed driver? if so, how much/who's it with etc.

That would be great. I have a car lined up, not to far from here.

Also, the car I'm looking at has a cracked engine mount + replacement bit. Just after some advice if this means that the car has been flogged? or just cracked over time. Also how long/much to fix. D:

    Cheers.

Go out and get some insurance quotes mate. There are hundreds of different insurance companies to go with, though your options with being a P Plater are slightly limited. My top pick would be AAMI.

Male under 25 will be anywhere in between $1000 - $2400 p.a. on Comprehensive, depending on your cover, how honest you are and how to set up your excess/premium ratio.

Best way to do it mate is shop around....

Hey cheers on your reply so early. I'm thinking just putting up some 3rd party cover, because its not a 10grand car kind of thing. Like my partners VR, she wants full comp so we got it for her. I was thinking just putting 3rd party up so that way what ever damage is done I'll deal with it and do what I wanna do and there still covered. If I where to buy a more expensive car I would put up full comp, but this car I'm looking at I don't think it will be worth the $1k a year to do so. But in saying that, thanks for your help. I'm just about to leave to go into town and get some info.

    Thanks again.

Online quotes man. AAMI, NRMA, GIO, ALLIANZ, VERO, + many more. All online just follow the steps.

Engine mounts get old and tired and not nessacarily a sign of being flogged give the age of the cars. V6's are a pain to change apparently cause it seems you have to lift the motor. In saying that, if you have acess to an engine crane then it wont be real hard, more then likely it will only be the passenger side that needs doing. I did my 5ltr passenger side with a jack under the motor, was far from rocket science just alot of laying on the ground.

Yeah Third Party is the way to go. I get Third Party Fire and Theft through AAMI for $489 p.a. and I'm 19, almost 20. Car is insured for $6500, including all my modifications (springs, stereo, extractors, LPG, etc etc etc)

Yeah, I've been browsing some online sites at the moment. I like to hear what other people have and if its working for them. As for the engine mount I'm hoping its the easy side lol. I'll probably just take it to a professional.

HamaTime, p.a. is her year yeah? that's not bad plus all your modifications.

    Cheers guys.

Third party fire and theft is the best overall insurance if you think about it. They usually cover the entire cost of your car if it is written off or stolen. Someone hits you, you get it fixed, only thing is if you hit someone else they only fix their car.

But it is a third of the price of comprehensive, and only slightly more then just third party. And that makes a big difference when you are a young P plater.

The insurance companies wanted to sting me for around $2000 a year for comprehensive when I was 19, which was $1500 more than fire and theft. I decided against getting comprehensive and in the 7 years I owned the car I had 1 accident and it only cost me around $3000 cash out of my pocket.
Compared to the $10,500 extra I would have paid. Not to mention they would only cover $10,000, and the car was worth $19,000. This was JUSTCAR, by the way.

The cheapest I have found so far is RACV and AAMI, try NRMA in NSW. And don't bother with YOUI as they won't insure a modified car, even with just an aftermarket stereo.

Have you thought about putting the car in your parents name, that way when you can afford full comp, you just put yourself down as an additional driver of the vechile. It saves you heaps

I can't exactly remember my excess costs and all that (need to find my policy and check on it). I pay $42 a month on my VR through NRMA for Third Party Fire & Theft.

I got quoted from NRMA the same thing, with all the mods done to this car. $43 a month, or 440something a year. Not bad I through.

I just gotta figure out is it worth it with a "broken" engine mount on the drivers side. It comes with a replacement but is it worth spending $250+ on getting it fixed?

Third party is the way to go for a younger driver. In addition, having a third party policy gives you a 50% per year no-claim bonus for when/if you ever get a full comprehensive policy. For example, if you have had a third party policy for four years without a claim, it makes you eligible for a two year no-claim bonus on a comprehensive policy instead of starting from scratch.
