    Default Abs issues

Had a code 31 come up the other day on my wagon which was the right hand rear wheel sensor so i replaced it yesterday and it still comes up with abs off even after i disconnected the battery for about 10mins, any idea what this could be? Also when i put the paperclip in the diagnostic plug the abs off light doesn't flash or give me any codes.
    Thanks
    Mitch

How did you know you had an ABS error code 31 when the ABS dash warning light wont flash up the codes? Also which pins in the ALDL (diagnostic) connector were you bridging to show the ABS error codes?

If the faulty wheel sensor was replaced, and the cause of the error is now fixed, the ABS module should clear the error code itself once the wheel sensor signal has returned, and then after its been driven a bit, it should just flash up code 12 (system OK),to show the ABS system is all ok again. At the least it should still be flashing up the error code that was set.I cant see how changing the wheel sensor would stop the ABS control module from flashing out its diagnostic codes.Changing that sensor shouldnt effect the ABS module at all.Im not sure if disconnecting the battery will remove set ABS codes, they can be cleared manually with a Tech 1 scantool,or as I mentioned above, once the problem is fixed,it should clear itself. You might have to see someone(usually holden)and get them to connect a Tech 1 scantool to the system and run some tests on the ABS to see whats going on with it.Id also check the ABS fusable link which is located under tthe bonnet down in front of the fuse box under plastic cover, and check fuse no 19 under the dash.

Before you go to Holdens and part with big wads of cash (that is guaranteed!), just remove the big multipin connector that goes onto the ABS pump....this has a habit of corroding especially if the engine has been cleaned with a caustic based degreaser....this causes the connector to simply "not connect" and can indicate a faulty wheel sensor due to the corroded connector or a multitude of other faults.

It's located between the battery and the brake master cylinder....a large lump of metal with rigid brake line coming from it...and the multipin connector.
