Can't get a mechanic til Monday so thought I would start a thread.
Took the battery terminal off a VS ecotec and now when it fires it stops as soon as you let go the the key.
Not sure what it sounds like. Anybody have any ideas. Fuel being cut off or something.
Edt. Thread title should be "then" cuts out.
Id check for any wires that might have been missed being reconnected, when the battery terminal was reconnected. This is especially true if the car was ok before the battery was disconnected.Sometimes theres smaller single wires running to one of the battery terminals that can fall down beside the battery or drop down and can then be easily missed.Just have a look around the battery area.
well, don't think it is loose wires Brett.
Unplugged the idle air valve wires and it went. I had actually taken the battery terminal off originally because it seens to be idling a whisker fast at times. Read on here that taking the battery terminal off does a reset of the computer.
Took the battery terminal off again, same deal. Wouldn't go except taking the said wires off didn't get it going.
Then tried taking the wires off off on the vacuum thing on the front of the intake line and it went.
Running well actually. Fairly sure if I go taking the battery terminal off again it will not go when the terminal is put back on.
So the plan is to replace the valve and vacuum thing.
Anyone know what the vacuum thing is actually called and the replacement value of the things. Can't find any on ebay so I presume genuine parts are required.
Anybody got any other ideas?
Well it's about 80 bucks for the idle air control and 130 for the throttle position control, I think it was called.
Surprised no-one else has encountered stopping as soon as it starts.
Done about 500 km without a problem but fairly sure if I take a battery terminal off, it will start doing it again.
Still think it is idling a whisker fast but probably got about 33 mpg on the trip.
Don't know whether to buy the valves on spec or take it the holden dealer to investigate.
Replaced both and now no troubles.
