It's rougher because it isn't injected like the petrol is. It uses a vapour mixer system, which is similar to a carby. And it might need a slight adjustment. Older LPG systems tend to need tuning up at least once a year to keep them running properly.

They are adjustable, but I would take it to an LPG fitter to get it adjusted personally. I tried to adjust mine, and I made it worse. It took me a good week just to get it running nice again. But, If you do want to adjust it yourself, there is a good article/thread on a ford forum, just search in google and you should find it.

It could also be the converter dying, or the spark plugs or leads could be old and not suitable for LPG as it needs a stronger spark to ignite it. That's all I can think of.

Yep you could be right , converter on the way out , couple a friends recon lovato not that good , dont know about plugs/leads , ran ok for weeks then suddenly crap , though it sounds like its missfiring after a couple of k's at under about 2000rpm , but only on lpg it seems...

Inspect the plugs, and if the leads are old it's probably better to change them, it can make a massive difference.
