Is it revving out so much that it's red lining? Or just more revs than you'd like it to?

could be 2-3 shift solenoid fault. they are about $50 for a new solenoid off ebay, very easy to change.

if it changes when you ease up on the accelerator it's probably just the computer telling it to hold the gear cos it knows you're a bastard that always wants to accelerate fast lol

the solenoid is in the trans pan, so you will need a transmission service kit, (filter, gasket, 5ltrs dexIII) there are 2 solenoids at the rear of the box one is the 1-2 shift solenoid and the other is the 2-3 shift solenoid, they just un-clip and pull out hard to explain but you will see what u mean when you have the trans pan off, they are spring loaded so make sure you dont loose the spring when you pull it out
Here is a link to the solenoids on ebay, Shift Solenoid A+B 1-2+2-3 TH700 4L60E 94-ON DTC 81/82 - eBay Automatic Transmission, Transmission, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 21-Aug-10 21:10:15 AEST)

They wont set a fault code until they fail completely, so prob wont show up if you do a fault code check.

the symptoms are holding gear to the red line and not changing up until you back off, ive had this problem before and a new solenoid fixed it!

might be worth changing both, just to make sure you get the right one there right next to each other.

you should get some instructions with the new solenoid with a diagram which will show you which one it is.
