how to remove auto gear knob?

Could someone tell me how to remove the gear knob on my auto. I tried to remove the selector cover but couldn't get it over the knob. There doesn't seem to be any screws holding the knob on. How do I get the knob off ?

not sure about the knobby bit - pretty sure its brute force tho---- but the selector panel will slip over it - just ---- need to turn it slightly and use a lil force - it;ll come off

As mentioned previously you shouldn't need to remove the auto gear knob to remove the cover, it just takes a little bit of mucking around to get the cover over. I usually unsecure the cover, turn it at right angles to where it normally sits and then slide it over the gear selector. If you do feel the need to remove the gear selector knob, you need to push it down and forward and it will "pop" off and it does take a wee bit of brute force.
