Default VS cutting out while driving

Hi, got a problem with 96 VS V6 auto. Wouldn't start last night, took like 15 seconds of cranking to get it going (usually starts first go, battery is brand new).

Then today it just cut out completely with out warning (dash lights etc still on) while cruising 80kms/hr so I put it in nuetral and cranked it but wouldn't start.
Pulled over and then it started perfectly?

I'm gonna start looking at things like loose earths, and going to replace battery terminals anyway, but if anyone had a similar problem then do you know what could be a likely culprit?

Crank Sensor. Exact same problem I had with mine. If it cuts out while driving just pour cold water over the front pulley and wait a few minutes

I have very similar prob with my manual VS .. engine warning lamp comes on and sometimes engine cuts out where I will need to clutch start it. Time to time I will not be able to start the car until waiting 45 min...battery terminals have been loose yet since fixng those tha prob still occurs. What are these codes people talk about and how would I use them please? This problem is driving my head inbloomy sane!! I stumbled across my fuel filter on backwards .. going fine now. However just today, on idle tha car temp rose to 3quart high started driving and normally temp will decrease, no not today it went off the rictor!!! I pulled over and it went down, fan kicks in and radiator is cool to handle. Is this the thermostat? given take Ive had probs with temp gauge previously just not this bad...

They are error codes mate . your computer logs codes when it detects a fault. Check the how to section for VS error codes.

had this problem with my ute mate.
was driving normally, running fine, then it just cut out and then started whilst driving.
pulled over, checked plugs and leads and all the normal stuff.
    started fine, made it home.
went to start it in the morning, cranked over roughly, idled for like 2 seconds then nothing.
ended up being the crank angle sensor and something else i forget.

Thanks guys for all your help. Did fault codes lol (I think i expert on that now) 7 threw bak at me. cas was main prob..$90 later new sensor replaced thank gawd cos its running better - touch wood. Also anti-theft deterrent missing in bcmu which was creating a 45 min leeway before i could restart car- reset after sensor replaced just waitin to see if this prob still occurs...the car is in 'remission' for 2 weeks to see if probs are fixed. haha. Also o2 sensor missing as thats not as important i will do that after 2 weeks. Every1 told me it was cas so cheers. Also lotsa guys been talkin bout alternator wire that gets exposed and can cause fire..well mine is bloody bare as so warning to anybody else out there - Chek alternator wire!! I dont want no fire so if this preventable its getting done so a huge thanksu for all who made it known to me..
Now imagine the facial expressions behind this 'car yard' !!
