The speedometer of my VR Exec Series I has started sticking as of a few days ago. When i start it up and move off, the speedo reads 0 until i give the dash a hard tap , and then the speedo needle jumps up to whatever speed i am doing.
It needs to be fixed to pass RWC and i'd like to do it myself if possible, saves me a bit of cash, or would i be best off leaving it to a mechanic in case i bugger up something else in the process of attempting to repair it?
I think i have a Lv 1 dash cluster, pretty much just has the Tachometer, Speedometer, Temp Gauge and Fuel Gauge
thats a common problem not sure how to fix it
The PCB membrane on the cluster has small cracks in it where the plugs go in to the cluster..The membrane is made out of plastic with the cct tracks on it. You could find some one who is very good with a soldering iron and repair the tracks, or solder the plug wires directly to the gauge terminals..This is the same fault with fuel and temp gauges....Mine does the same. Ive repaired a few but never seem to get around to do mine..
You must use a low temp regulated iorn oe you WILL melt the plastic. any more than 1/2 sec it melts..
I replaced the cog in mine the other day and the speedo stop sticking. I think disturbing the connections helped.
