    Default Need Help!

I just blew the motor to my VS executive commodore. i have recently bought a 03 VX motor and transmission. There is a plate near the transmission that i did not have in the VS. i would like to know what it does and if i could install the motor straight in without it.

Here are the pictures of what it is

Found out it was some safety gear thing. And yes you can use the gear box without the safety gear

it looks like what the later models used for the park netural switch with reverse lights etc, the vs should have that under the centre consol so it should just be ignored. you might need to check up weather the trans will work with your ecu.

VX Auto Trans with torque con, low kms!!!

try that post. its in the f/s section but good info

As above check carefully if this later trans will work with your original PCM (ECU).
Im not 100% sure but it looks like the VX selector switch (in your pics) may include the gear selector position as well as neutral start and reverse light control.

VS use a pressure sensing plate in the auto to tell the PCM the selected gear.

Reading moff_man's link, it sounds very much like it wont work.

For all of those who wish to drop new model engines/transmission into their vs please note yes it does fit and run, tho it takes abit of time and a new engine mount.

As for the switch in the pics, yes it is the gear selector position as well as the neutral start and reverse light. The VS does not have one of these at the transmission but it has one under the Gear shifter in the center console. You simply remove it before placing it in.

Obviously the exhaust heads wont fit the standard exhaust on the vs so you need to swap the heads around, with this you'll need to get a new mount because the engine will sit abit further back than normal.

There's ALOT of room in the engine bay for a turbo
